Trim head is small flat head, this screw has slender shank to reduce the risk of splitting. Square drive is designed to reduce the risk of cam-out and allow single-handed installation.

The Type 17 auger point and narrow body penetrate softwood and plastic-wood composite decking material. They cut threads into drilled holes as they're turned, so they require less driving torque and cause less stress on material than thread-forming screws.

Screws may be mildly magnetic, which's caused during the production.
